WHO WE ARE
QUILLAJA GREEN BIOSOLUTIONS is a company dedicated to the production and commercialization of natural extracts derived from endemic or abundant plants in Chile. The main challenge is to manufacture high value-added products in Chile based on the Quillaja Saponaria Molina tree, taking special care not to damage the availability of this resource.
Quillaja is a tree that only grows in Chile (Quillaja saponaria Molina), and whose biomass (wood, bark, leaves and roots) has a high content of triterpene saponins. Saponins are natural foaming and emulsifiers of multiple uses: foaming in beverages and beers, cosmetics, mining, agriculture, preparation of photographic films, additive in animal feed, treatment of effluents, preparation of dairy foods with low cholesterol, adjuvant in vaccines animals and humans, etc.
QUILLAJA
Quillaja extracts contain mainly saponins, in addition to polyphenols, tannins and other salts and sugars in small quantities.
The Quillaja saponins have a triterpene nucleus, with 2 chains of sugars attached to this nucleus. The sugar chains give the saponins a hydrophilic nature, while the triterpene nucleus has a hydrophobic character, which turns them into an amphoteric molecule.
This last characteristic gives the saponins an excellent action as non-ionic surfactant, allowing the reduction of the surface tension as well as the solubilization of hydrophobic products in aqueous solutions or the formation of microemulsions, all this at very low concentrations.
In addition, Quillaja saponins have a marked immunostimulant action, cause changes in cellular permeability, bind to cholesterol and possess antifungal and antibacterial action among other properties.
Polyphenols and tannins also have specific actions for example as a nematicide, or joined ammonia allowing the reduction of odors.
All these characteristics give Quillaja extracts properties that allow it to be used in numerous applications, ranging from agriculture and mining to the production of vaccines, including food, cosmetics and photography among other uses.
Quillaja extracts are recognized and approved for human consumption by numerous Food Codex (FAO), FDA, EC and Japan Ministry of Health bodies.
